In November of 2019 I ran my first marathon, the Soldier marathon at Ft. Benning, GA. Runners of this race have the opportunity to run in honor of a fallen soldier. When the miles became long and my legs weary, I thought of the fallen soldier whose name I had pinned to my back. They never gave up and so I pushed on, as they did.
My first marathon has inspired me to do more training and events. When considering the challenge of more races, the mantra "never ever give up" is something I think of often.
In August of 2019, at the MSN Managers Meeting, I had the opportunity to pack joy jars and learn about Jessie's inspiration to encourage others to NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Her determination and NEGU's mission has touched me. While my challenge is to the finish line, I want to bring joy and hope to the courageous children who face the challenge of childhood cancer. I can do this by dedicating my future races to honor all the recipients of joy jars. I challenge myself and you to NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Please support my fundraising efforts by donating to the Jessie Rees Foundation.
"We believe that every child fighting cancer deserves joy, the opportunity to smile, and be encouraged to NEVER EVER GIVE UP."
